I really am a crazy dog mom

Apparently, I'm not the only one who hates to board my dog when I go out of town.

After yesterday's post, it sounds like every other dog owner out there gets as torn up over it as I do. Typically, when we go out of town my parents offer to watch her. When she's there, I miss her, but I don't feel bad. Mainly because I know she's having tons of fun with their two dogs. And my mom spoils her rotten. Thank goodness for my parents! They have offered to watch her for the two weeks that we'll be in Europe. That will make being away from her for two weeks so much easier knowing that she's in good hands and having fun.

Look at this face. Wouldn't you cry if you knew you had to leave her at a kennel for two nights?

  1. Precious! I'm definitely a crazy dog lady. I can't leave my girl behind. The only night I've spent away from her in the almost year we have had her was the night of my vow renewal. She stayed with my parents and I made them promise to let her sleep in their bed because she always sleeps in ours. It was killer leaving her behind. I don't know that I'd ever be able to board her. I would have to find some friends or family to watch her. I think she would be too traumatized being boarded! I'm glad your parents are going to watch Layla the 2 weeks you're in Europe. I bet it will make it much easier on you!

  2. I'm right there with you! I crazy love my dogs and miss them when I'm away no matter what! I travel with them if at all possible! And the kennel breaks my heart!

  3. My parents always watched Reilly for us when it was just her, but now with the puppy I just can't stand the thought of her wrecking their house like she has ours. They always wanted to take Reilly, but havent't really mentioned it for all of our weekends away this summer! I think that's a hint!

  4. We've had TERRIBLE experiences at the kennel but didn't know what else we could do... then we discovered there is a nurse at our vet's office who pet sits. She takes The Boom to her house where her husband works from home and she's only crated if they all leave the house to go to dinner. She has a 4 year old to play with and I'm told The Boom likes to snuggle in his room at night. She LOVES it! She used to come back skinny and dehydrated from the kennel (she goes on hunger strikes when she's nervous) and she kept getting kennel cough even though she gets the shots... WE LOVE the new situation! Plus, I can email the lady every day to see how she's doing ('cause I'm psycho like that) and if anything goes wrong, she has direct access to the vet! Perfection!

  6. Love it. My mom enjoys watching her granddog when we go out of town too. Although her two new kittens and him don't get along very well!

  7. Girl, my parents drive to Connecticut to watch my sister's two dogs, Moxie & Bruin!! LOL

We dogsit for my parents all the time...and they are returning the favor for us Memorial Day weekend when they come to our house to watch Frisco for us.

It's amazing what we all do for our furbabies!

  8. aw! We leave our doggie with Adam's parents when we go out of town too - I think he'd probably live there than with us anyways! :-)

  9. I completely understand. Oliver visits Glammy and Pepop often because their dog Tucker is his bff. I have already started looking at places to board him when we go to VB this summer. Thankfully Tucker will be at the boarders with him, but I don't trust just anyone! I'm sure the boarding places will think I'm totally crazy for going to check out the options first, but I want Oliver and Tucker to be safe, and I don't want to constantly worry.
