crybaby

In my family, I am often made fun of for being the one who will just sob and sob while watching a movie (or Oprah....she sure knows how to get the tears flowing). Obviously watching something like Marley and Me or Old Yeller will make anyone cry, but there are some really strange ones that will make cry like a baby.  My family will watch a tv show or go to a movie, and call me later and say things like, "We all agreed you wouldn't handle it very well...you'd be a mess...don't go see it"

Here are some of the movies that make me cry the hardest...

Heidi is probably my "ugliest" cry movie. I haven't watched it in years (mostly because just thinking about it upsets me), but the scene in the beginning when Heidi is stolen from her grandfather and he has just made her a little pair of goat shoes....oh y'all. I can't even deal.

This movie is also in my top 10 list of all time favorite movies, despite the fact that it makes me cry uncontrollably. I think we can all agree that The Lion King has its sad parts, and even though I know what's coming every time, I just lose it when Simba loses his dad. And when I say lose it, I still cry as if I were losing one of my own family members. I will say, this movie ends in such an uplifting way, but I have to be wearing no mascara if this movie comes on TV. It still gets me (18 years after its release).

This is one that made me cry long before I was a teacher myself. I absolutely love it. And this one doesn't make me shed tears because it's sad, this is one that causes me to bawl my eyes out due to happiness and emotions that I obviously have no control over. At the end of the movie, when Mr. Holland has been laid off and he's leaving the school and he returns to the auditorium and all his former students are there to perform his "opus" for him? Oh my goodness. It such a sweet moment. And the only way to respond is to weep uncontrollably.

Anybody else watch this at a sleepover in middle school and feel like they were sucker punched in the stomach afterward? I certainly did. And even though it was a tearjerker, I have proceeded to watch it (and rent it from blockbuster for future sleepovers) at least a dozen more times.

This is another movie that is in my my list of all time favorites. Clint Eastwood's character goes through such a transformation in this movie. You can't help but cry as you watch.

Anyone else love this movie as a child? I remember renting this one all the time with my little sister. Eventually we stopped, probably because she got tired of my tears.

I know that Up one that makes every one teary eyed, and it's one that I remember my parents warned me against seeing. J and I rented this after it came out on DVD, and well....I felt pretty bad for my poor husband. I was INCONSOLABLE after watching this movie.  A complete and utter basket case. I don't think I even need to say which part does it to me, because anyone who has seen this movie knows. Old people have always made me want to cry, and this movie was just over the top on the old people cuteness/sadness scale.

A few others that get me every time: Steel Magnolias, Bambi, One True Thing, Forrest Gump, The Land Before Time, Losing Isaiah, Man on Fire, Million Dollar Baby

I'm sure my list could go and on and if I took more time to think about this.

  1. I, too, am an ugly crier at just about anything. Commercials get me just as bad as movies. The commercial where the polar bear hugs the guy for driving a hybrid? Sob hysterically. I LOVE "Wild Hearts Can't Be Broken", but strangely, not one I've ever cried at. I cannot watch The Lion King or Bambi or The Land Before Time. I just can't handle it. And love the "Heidi" shout-out!

  3. I just watched Gran Torino for the first time in June. I cried like a baby. He'd kill me if he knew I was telling you & the internet this, but R is such a movie crier. ;)

  4. I have to watch Heidi every Christmas! Sad but sweet. I'm a Shirley Temple fan. I am such a weeper when it comes to movies. Give me five minutes in front of Little House on the Prairie and I'm a basket case.

  5. Oh my gosh, UP..I can't even look at the movie cover without crying. I watched it with my hubby too and I think he was scared of me. I literally sobbed through the entire thing.

  7. Oh my goodness, Wild Hearts Can't Be Broken was a favorite of mine as a kid! We would rent it from the library all the time. Now I'm tempted to watch it again! I think I cry the most in Stepmom, love that movie so much!

  8. There's definitely a few movies that make me cry like a baby. Oddly enough most are Disney lol. Lion King, Up, Bambi, and Love Story make me cry every time. I cried the first couple times I saw The Notebook as well.

  9. Lion King, Mr. Holland's Opus, and Up are definitely on my list, too! My dad died when I was pretty young, and so just about ANYONE dying makes me bawl my eyes out, every time. But sometimes when it's emotional enough to make me cry, that's how I know it's GOOD!

  10. We saw Up in the theater. In 3D. And there I was, full on ugly cry, under the 3D glasses. I've watched it since, but I refuse to watch the beginning 20 minutes or so.

  11. They always play UP in our pediatrician's waiting room. It kills me... I have to use every ounce of self control to not turn into a blubbering fool.

  12. For real, is there any movie as awesome as Mr. Holland's Opus? I NEVER hear anyone talk about it and it is just SO incredible.

I might cry just thinking about it.

  14. I cry at movies sometimes, and almost never after having seen the movie once, but you know what movie makes me cry hard every time? TOY STORY 3. It's ridiculous. I can't even pinpoint what I'm crying about, but that scene at the end when Andy is giving his stuff to the little girl... gah! It just gets me.

  18. Wild Hearts Can't Be Broken was one of my FAVORITES! My sister and I rented it all the time too. I can't really remember if it made me cry or not. The Notebook makes me ugly cry every time. I'm not a huge movie crier but The Notebook gets me!

  19. I had to come back to leave a comment here. I love this. I cry, cry, cry in movies.

Mine are Stepmom, Beaches, Steel Magnolias, Father of the Bride, Mr. Holland's Opus, Forrest Gump, Finding Neverland, and oh my goodness, I can't even think of all the others. But I just cry and cry and cry.

Oh and I definitely cried when I saw The Help with you. Yikes!

  20. I'm not a movie cryer. However, I did tear up watching "People Like Us" last week at the theater. I remember my late, sweet father crying 4 times in my life: deaths, my grad school graduation, and when he watched one of my all-time favorite movies "Life As A House." I was floored! Just a few others that pull at the ol' heart strings for me?
    Toy Story 3
Fireproof - darn you, Kirk Cameron
    Warrior!
    ....just to name a few.

  21. Bambi, Dumbo, The Lion King, and Cars? Does anyone else cry during Cars? Or, six times while trading in their own car?

  22. I watched Beaches for the first time last year and all I could do was cry! Have you seen the 1980's Jersey Girl movie? I cried with that one.

  23. Sorry I'm so late to the game on this, but really, what movie doesn't make me cry? Beaches, Stepmom, The Help, Courageous, Antoine Fisher and Father of the Bride have probably made me cry the most. I cry at everything, though...even commercials! Glad I'm not alone in this :)
