Menu Monday & Birthday Wishes

Is it really Monday again? On a positive note, I only have 4 more Mondays at school after this one! Summer is so close!

And on another happy note, today is my best friend's birthday...happy birthday Tyler!

Now onto the food...

Here is what we ate this week. Hope you'll link up below!

J's Meals:

This meal was a total winner. Perfect for summer. The flavors blended so well together. We used fresh corn on the sandwich and I think that's a crucial step to making this meal work. It just tasted so fresh. YUM!

Always a staple. Always delicious. This meal can never do wrong in my book.

Another great dinner. Are we sensing a pattern with my husband's cooking from this past week? Like the first two meals, this one was fabulous. Fried fish and pico...what more can one ask for in a meal?

Also? His favorite part of making this meal is finding other things in our kitchen to fry. I had made brownies earlier in the day, so you guessed it....deep fried brownies.

My Meals:

Part of me almost didn't post this. My one and only meal was a total joke this week. Plus it was just for me since J was out. What did I make?

Trader Joe's Gorgonzola Gnocchi and Sauteed Green Beans with Lemon Pepper

So fancy, right??

14 Weeks

Alright...here's my first week of the old pregnancy survey! I'm curious to see how often I remember to do this...

How Far Along: 14 weeks as of this past Thursday

Size of Baby: About the size of a lemon!

Total Weight Gain/Loss: Who knows. According to my scale at home, only about a pound since the day I found out. According to the doctor's scale, about 3 pounds. This baffles me since I feel like I am really showing. I would think the weight gain would be higher. No complaints though.

Maternity Clothes: Using the bella band with a lot of pants, and I purchased some maternity jeans from GAP (for all you Charlotte gals, Northlake Mall has a maternity section in the back of Baby GAP!). Other than that, shirts and dresses all still fit fine. I am really glad I bought a few pairs of pants though. They are like heaven.

Gender: We find that out a month from tomorrow!

Movement: Still too early

Sleep: Not bad. Sleep hasn't been too much of a problem for me so far. I do get up about once a night to pee (something I never did before). And my dreams are seriously wacky these days. Thursday other night I had a dream that poor Rosie had been turned into an orangutang and was being chased through our yard by a python. So that's pretty crazy.

Symptoms: Pain in my tailbone on an almost daily basis. Thinking about going to prenatal yoga...anyone have experience with this? Did prenatal yoga work for you?

Aversions: The one time of day I have food aversions is when my kids pull out their snacks at school. The mixed odor of Slim Jims and Doritos makes me want to vomit. (sidenote: why can't parents pack healthy snacks for their children...fruit, granola bars, crackers, carrots?)

Cravings: Frozen yogurt covered in fruit and nuts, apple juice in the morning, and root beer. I also had an amazing BLT at Toast yesterday. That may become a summer staple in my diet.

What I miss: Beer....this baby is SO worth it, but seeing all the summer ales on the shelves is making me want one so badly! Other than that, the ability to take allergy meds without feeling worrying. I just can't  justify taking medicine unless I am in legitimate pain, and a runny nose and sneezing are just annoying, not painful.

Best Moment this week: Hearing the heartbeat this week and setting our date for the anatomy scan!

Pregnancy: Weeks 4-11

Whether you like these kind of posts or not, it's time to start documenting my pregnancy week by week (or at least when I remember!). I want to document this pregnancy on my blog, because let's be honest, I am not the avid scrapbooker I used to be. My blog has definitely taken the place as my main tool to record memories.

I want to do the little survey and I plan to post my first one later this week, but for now, here's a look back at what things have looked like up until this point...

This is the day after I found it...February 19.

Horrible lighting....I know. I need to be better about remembering to take these on weekends in the morning when there are no shadows. When I do them during the work week in the evenings, our whole backyard is shadows.

In California!

So there you have it....I obviously forgot some weeks in there. Oops!
Looks like I was much better at remembering on my odd weeks than the evens.
I am 14 weeks now and still feeling great. More on that later, though!

San Diego: Day 4

We woke up on our fourth day in San Diego in this lovely room...

Our second hotel of the trip, Tower 23, was nice, but I definitely didn't enjoy it as much as the first one.

We headed to La Jolla for brunch at Brockton Villa. I had heard and read great things about this restaurant, mainly that they had a great view of the cove and the sea lions.  It was this neat old home that had been turned into a restaurant.

Overall, it was good, but I was really disappointed by the service here and the way we were treated by the hostess. Would I go back here? I doubt it. La Jolla had so many neat little restaurants, I don't think you're missing out if you visit La Jolla and you skip out on this place. But I will say, my fruit bowl made a pretty picture!

After our brunch, we walked around the cove some and watched the sea lions. Someone (clue: NOT the pregnant one) had some issues with the way the sea lions and pelicans smelled, so we really didn't hang out too long. But we were there long enough to get a few pictures!

Also? This is random, but these little squirrels hanging out on a cliff made us laugh.

This little hotel sits in the cove, I loved the colors on it.

After our cove exploring time was over, we headed to Torrey Pines, another recommendation from blog buddies! This state reserve was an easy, quick hike, and the views were totally worth the small fee you pay to get in.

Don't worry...we didn't see any rattlesnakes!

After the hike we were ready for a break, but before heading back to the hotel for a nap, we did get some lunch! And since we made it all the way to California, it was only necessary that we try some In-N-Out. I liked it. J still says he prefers Five Guys. I'm somewhere in the middle. i loved the burger, but those Five Guys fries just win me over.

After nap time, we headed back out for dinner at Nine Ten. Before our dinner reservations we took in one more sunset and watched some surfers from the pier by our hotel.

Our dinner at Nine Ten was absolutely delicious. This was definitely the nicest restaurant we ate at during the trip. The food was fantastic, and the service was great. Can't remember how we heard about this place, but it was a wonderful recommendation!

And that about sums it up! On Wednesday morning we packed up and headed back to Charlotte. This was a trip that we both needed, and it was fun to get away and explore a new place. I would happily go back to San Diego!

San Diego: Day 3 beers, beaches, & sweet rides

After our morning on Coronado, we headed north to Escondido to visit the Stone Brewery. Long before we knew I was pregnant, we decided to visit this brewery, one of J's favorite. It was well worth the half hour drive! We got their about an hour before our tour time, so we enjoyed some "beers" in their restaurant. Which, by the way, was huge and had big open walls with fresh air. I loved it!

J's beer:

And mine...a root beer!

We also snacked on some pretzels and mac and cheese. Definitely the healthiest choices on the menu!

The tour was great and very informative. Of the breweries we've visited, this was definitely one of the biggest. Their facility was huge! We learned that Stone makes only ales, no lagers, which probably explains why we're Stone fans.

I really liked their distribution truck and the saying on it. I couldn't agree more!
When it comes to beer, this might be motto.

After the tour was a tasting. J enjoyed the tasting for both of us!

Before heading back to our hotel, we stocked up on some pint glasses, some for us and some for friends. If you're a beer fan and you find yourself in Southern California, the Stone Brewery is well worth the trip! Even as a non drinker, I really enjoyed the tour and my root beer!

We left the brewery and headed down the coast to our second hotel which was in Mission Beach. We drove through La Jolla on our way there and were able to catch the sunset over the ocean...something that definitely doesn't happen on the east coast!

In addition to seeing the sunset, we saw this gal (we think she was Miss California for Miss USA based on her sash they had) having a little photo shoot. Pretty hilarious considering that it was about 55 degrees out.

But back to that sunset, it was pretty lovely!

As soon as the sun was down, it got to be pretty cold, so we made our way back to the car and headed to our new hotel. But only after a quick photo of our sweet ride was taken.

Yep....that beauty was ours as we cruised along the California coast.
It was awesomely terrible.

We ended up going to bed pretty early on this night and not going out to eat. The day had been packed, and after a late afternoon snack of pretzels, mac and cheese, and beer, we just weren't hungry for a big dinner.  It also felt nice to go to bed early.

Up Next: Exploring La Jolla!
