Five on Friday

Another week for 5 on Friday! I'm going to link up with April from A. Liz Adventures today!

1. This Covergirl and Olay Simply Ageless Concealer concealer is my favorite for dark circles under my eyes. I have tried the Benefit Erase Paste that so many have raved about, but I honestly like this one better, and it's much cheaper!

2. This may come as no surprise, but Amazon Prime! When I had M we signed up for Prime and I can't say how much I love having items on my doorstep in a matter of HOURS! We're in the middle of some serious baby proofing over here now that we have a mobile baby, So I ordered a few items on Monday at 7pm. The next morning an unmarked, white Nissan Altima pulled up and a man brought a package to my door at 10am. I have no idea who this man was or who he worked for, but Amazon had my items on my doorstep in under 24 hours. I love it!

3. My new 20 oz. Camelback water bottle! And why do I love it? Because it fits into the cup holders in my car. It's perfect for running errands since I don't really need to be carrying around 45oz of water when we run to Target and the grocery store. It's perfect!

4. Trader Joe's Lavender Salt Scrub....this stuff makes your skin so soft and smells so good. Thanks to Meme for sharing this on her blog. Can't beat this for about $5!

5. "Oh How I Need You" - the worship team at church sang this on Sunday, and I was almost brought to tears. I just love it. And...BANJO!

8 Months

8 months. EIGHT MONTHS! Didn't I just sit down and write about 7 months? As fast as this month went by, so much about you has changed. It was a big milestone month for you!

Let's start with the big. YOU CRAWL! After weeks and weeks of scooting and rolling around and rocking on all 4's, you have mastered the crawl! On June 10, after five days of traveling in Richmond, you were back in your own home and you crawled across the floor (to eat a magazine). Since then, you've been on the move and you're becoming quite fast. But as much as you love crawling, you prefer to stand. You typically are crawling to one of two places: a piece of furniture or toy you can use to pull yourself up OR a dog. You're keeping us on our toes!

On June 10, you had one other BIG event happen, your top two teeth came in! While we were in Richmond you slept terribly. I assumed it was because you were in a new place and sleeping in a Pak n Play, but now I think it had a lot to do with those two teeth coming in. They're just starting to be visible when you smile, and they make you look so big!

And as if that wasn't enough, on June 11 you started clapping. It is perhaps the cutest thing you do (besides laugh). We do a lot of clapping in our home right now. You get so excited when you clap and Mommy and Daddy clap back at you. It makes all three of us laugh!

One last big milestone is your babbling. We hear Mama, Dada, and Baba all the time now. You had sort of started saying this toward the end of six months, but now it's all the time! You still have not connected Mama to me or Dada to your dad, but we love hearing you say it!

You are loving solid foods more and more, but you still happily nurse five times a day. You really love to eat watermelon and zucchini. We tried spaghetti that your dad made for the first time last night, and that was a big hit. Your pincer grab is improving, so eating little foods has become a little easier. I try to give you a few Cheerios or black beans at each meal so you can practice. I'm willing to bet that you'll have it down by 9 months!

For the most part, you still nap well. Once in the morning around 10:30/11 and once in the afternoon around 3. Some days are better than others. Now that you can easily sit up on your own and pull yourself up in your crib, we have a lot of days where you stand and talk/cry for a long time before napping, but you typically do end up putting yourself to sleep. You have also taken a big interest in all of your stuffed animals, and they have somehow all ended up in your crib and sleep with you. It makes me laugh to find you in the morning or after a nap where you're playing in your bed with your babies.

In your 8th month you flew on an airplane to Wisconsin, you traveled to Richmond for your uncle's high school graduation, you completed your first set of swim lessons, you went bowling (sort of, you watched!), you went disc golfing for the first time  (again, you watched!), and we switched you from your infant carrier to your big girls really was a busy month for a little baby!

M - you are growing up so fast and it seems like you are transforming before my eyes. As you get more teeth and your hair is beginning to fill in, and as you and I can comunicate and play more, I see the baby in you slipping away. I can't believe you've been here for eight whole months. It's incredible how much you've grown and changed in such a short period of time.

We love you to pieces baby girl!

Weight: About 19.5 lbs
Height: Not sure at the moment
Diapers: Size 3 in disposables
Clothes: 9 or 12 months. You even have a few things labeled 12-18 months I've put you in.
Eyes: Blue eyed baby girl!
Hair: You are no longer a bald baby. There's so much hair on your head these days! In fact just the other day we had been outside and you were all sweaty and your little hairs had all curled up on your head. Wonder if this means you're going to have some curl in your hair like your dad?

I also feel like I need to share this photo...this is how most of our photo session went today! Thank goodness for a dad who now works from home and can come distract her for six seconds while I try to get a shot of her on her back and smiling!

Menu Monday

Share your meals and menus with the link up below!

Love this sandwich in the summer time!

Beef with Peppers, served over Rice Noodles

Loved the pizza, but man oh man, grilling pizza is tricky! I need more practice with this!

Good...but sort of odd? There was a lot going on in these sandwiches. This was a recipe J picked out. Pretty sure I wouldn't request it in the future.

Summer weekends are the best!

We've had a really full and really fun weekend! I think I've mentioned this before, but one thing I love about my blog is going back and seeing what we did on a specific weekend in the past. I loved having little memories like this documented, because it's so easy to forget the fun day to day events.

Friday evening we grilled out at home and the watched a few Breaking Bad episodes. We're finally all caught up on Netflix, and we need to watch the first half of season five that aired last summer. It is such a crazy show. SO glad we jumped on the bandwagon.

Saturday we started the day with a pancake breakfast on the deck. This was M's first experience with pancakes, and as you can see, she was a fan!

After pancakes and a morning nap, we headed to the Farmer's Market and stocked up on produce. Charlotte has a few great farmer's markets and I love visiting in the summer time. I am excited to make some fried green tomatoes this week!

On Saturday evening, my good friend Sarah was celebrating her birthday at the US White Water Center. We had been wanting to visit the WWC since moving here because we had heard such great things about it, but we just hadn't taken the time to visit. Turns out, we were missing out! What a neat place! They have live music on Thursdays and Saturdays in the summer, so we put out a blanket, grabbed a few beers, and listened to the music with friends. A really fun way to spend a Saturday night!

Today has been pretty low key. Church, a big walk around the neighborhood, and I tried something new for dinner (it'll be on Menu Monday tomorrow!). I also made a Tollhouse Chocolate Chip Pie to eat after dinner tonight. My friend Faith brought it to our house for a playdate a few months ago and I've been dreaming of it since! It's pretty decadent and rich, but so good!

Embrace the Camera: Week 9 + Backyard Pool

Last week we broke out our plastic pool for M on the deck.
It was quite the hit!
We filled the pool with some bath toys and a few of her favorite kitchen gadgets...a ladle, a whisk, and a strainer!

I see many afternoons in the plastic pool in our near future!

And a few without mom in them because...well, nothing's cuter than a chubby baby in a swim suit!

After 45 minutes of solid play time, M got kicked out of the pool by her two big sisters. They decided it was their turn!

Graduation Day

I don't typically do a huge photo dump on my blog, but I just have so many pictures with my family that I just love from my brother's graduation two weeks ago! Forgive me for the photo overload!

Jason graduated with a class of about 500 students, so it was a pretty long ceremony. The ceremony was at the VCU Siegel Center in Richmond. In addition to watching each student walk across the stage and have their name called, we listened to many speakers, so the whole thing was about two and a half hours. Thank goodness M stayed entertained with toys and her Ergo carrier!

I love graduation pictures with caps in the air!

Anyone else have a baby who loves to eat and play with buckles and zippers? She LOVES them these days.

After the ceremony, J and I were able to meet up real quick with his dad who was one of the attendants at graduation shaking hands and congratulating the graduates. That was kind of neat for my brother to know one of these people personally! It was also nice for us to catch up with him for a little while after the ceremony. M had been snoozing in the Ergo and woke up not long before this, so she wasn't really feeling the picture taking. Tough life being a baby!

We headed back to my parents' home after I nursed her in the car, which B-T-DUBS...that is no easy task in a non-nursing friendly dress. I was quite the sight in our back seat.

Anyhow! After she finished eating, we headed back to the 'burbs where we celebrated with barbecue and lots of family!

This is M with my cousin who came down for the day. She works at a Buy Buy Baby in Northern, VA and loves babies. Wish she lived closer and could be our sitter!

J, M, and me with my little sis and her boyfriend. They came from NYC for the weekend.

Jason and our grandparents

M's face makes me chuckle here!

Love this one of my nana and mom with M and me!

I told you it was a lot of pictures!

It was a fun day with family, but also tiring! We were all exhausted by 5pm. And that night M woke up ready to party at 1am. She was ready for more fun! Poor girl struggled a bit being away from home and in a new place. And on top of that she had 2 teeth resting right below her gums the whole time we were away. Thankfully, they broke through when we got home!

Menu Monday

Another Monday is here, so it's time to share some meals? What have you been cooking?
Link up at the bottom!

This was good, but lacking. I think it needed more of a sauce? It's a skinnytaste recipe, so I'm guessing she cut back on oil and butter for the sake of keeping the calories low, but it was missing something. Either way, the scallops were wonderful!

I loved these! The turned out a little messy because my chicken and veggie mixture was pretty watery, but they were still tasty!

I found this one on Pinterest. It was okay, but nothing special. Baked chicken is just so blah to me. I think if I made it again, I might grill my chicken and then broil it with the cheese on top? The combination of ingredients was great, but the chicken was so plain.

Pan Bagnat with TJ's French Fries and Roasted Asparagus

I apologize for this picture. I was so excited about dinner I took a few big bites before snapping my photo! This was J's dinner for Father's Day. When we visited Nice 2 years ago, Pan Bagnat was one of our favorite parts of our visit. I've made it one other time, but it's a lot of prep. J has requested a couple of times since then, so I thought I'd make it for him for Father's Day. It was a big hit. Not quite as good as the real thing on the French Rivierra, but still good!

Okay....your turn to share! Link up!

Embrace the Camera: Week 8 with Dad

I have so many pictures from my brother's graduation that I want to post, but for today, I'll share this pic of M and her dad since it's embrace the camera day!

Thanks to my sister's boyfriend for sharing this picture with us!

J wore her from the car into the graduation, and then they walked the halls together during graduation when it was nap time so she could snooze. This baby (and her parents) love baby wearing at times like this! Also, strangers think it's WAY cute when dads wear their babies. I rarely get comments, but every other person who passed J made a comment about how sweet they looked. I can't really blame them, they are adorable!

working from home....

Today marks a new chapter for our little family. As of this morning, my husband will now be working from home five days a week, with the small exception of a little traveling here and there. He took a new job where he's going to be working remotely, and while we're all really excited about this, we're also trying to figure out how to make this work best for all three of us.

He will have an office that can be shut off from the rest of the house which I think will be helpful, but I'm wondering what other "boundaries" or "rules" would be helpful to put in place. Do any of you have a spouse who works from home while you are at home with your kids? I love that he'll be here to have lunch with us and to see M for more hours of the day, but I am weary of us (M & me) getting in his way.

Also, our home office is sort of a wreck right now. I've been perusing pinterest to gather ideas on how to make it a better space for us.

Have I also mentioned he wants a standing desk?  I *hate* the way it looks, but can understand why he wants one. Anyone have experience with a decent looking standing desk that won't break the bank?

I'd love to hear thoughts and ideas from other families who are in this situation!
