Plane Rides, Cheese, Family, and The Company Sandwich

Over Memorial Day weekend we took a (sort of) last minute trip to Wisconsin. J's mom grew up here, and in December her father passed away. We flew up there to help her and some other family help clean up his home. It wasn't the best cause for a trip, but it was nice seeing a lot of J's extended family from there and letting M meet them for the first time. And, as always....cheese!

We flew out on Saturday afternoon, and to everyone's surprise, M did really well on her first flight. She had her fussy moments, but no real crying. I'll call that a win for a crazy seven month old wild child!

Waiting to board our flight...shoelaces provided great fun!

Here we are after we landed in Chicago. Someone was still a bit sleepy after snoozing on the plane. Once again...I can't say enough good things about my Ergo. Made our whole trip SO much easier.

While in Wisconsin, M got to meet her Great-Great-Aunt Eunice. She is just the sweetest. I am so glad M got to meet her.

On Sunday we had a big picnic with a lot of the family. M was sort of a sleepy grump the whole time and the weather was cold and rainy, but we did look lovely in our red, white, and blue!

The rest of the weekend was spent cleaning up the house and trying to get M to take naps. Turns out she doesn't love napping in places that are not her home these days.

In the kitchen we found 17 pitchers among all the cabinets, and all but 5 got pitched (punny!). M adopted the 12 unwanted pitchers as her own toys!

And then she practiced her backwards scoot.

Can we also take a minute and talk about her baby jeans? My mom and I went to the mall a few days before our trip, and she got these for M at Baby Gap since we knew Wisconsin would be chilly and all her long pants are too small now. She looked like such a big  girl in these!

Among the shelves and shelves of books that we went through, I found a 1922 copy of an Emily Post's Etiquette. I've really enjoyed flipping through it! We also found piles and piles of old church cookbooks. Those gave us some chuckles, as well.

It was a quick trip, but I'm glad we went. It was our first real adventure as a family! We've made trips to Richmond to see the grandparents since she arrived, but this was her first BIG trip. The first of many!

  1. Love this post! So glad she did good on the plane! I think Shelby's first plane ride will be in October to Baton Rouge. I don't forsee any before that.
    Love her patriotic outfit.
    And, the Company sandwiches? Hysterical!

  2. If you have any secret tricks for the plane ride, please share! We are flying out to CO in September and I'm a little nervous. Zoe does awesome on car trips, but we've never flown before. I'm a little nervous about being THOSE parents of a screaming baby :)
