5 on Friday!

Happy Friday!
Linking up with April + friends this week with 5 things I'm loving right now...

1. I just got this Jersey Tee Hoody from Old Navy in the mail, and I am seriously in love. It's going to be a fall staple in my wardrobe. Go get one for under $20 PLUS 20% off right now! And order through ebates and get cash back!

2. Have you all seen this video yet? I have watched it at least a dozen times this week. I just adore it. Here's what her dad wrote as the video description, "She thought she kept hearing fireworks and couldn't sleep, so we sang to keep her mind preoccupied. In the end, nothing competes with fireworks." If you haven't watched, make sure you watch all the way to the end!

3. Who else watched the Parenthood premier last night? This is definitely the show I'm most excited about returning this fall. I love the Bravermans!

4. A few weeks ago J bought us this Bose Speaker to use with our phones and iPad and I'm loving it. We carry it all over the house and love it!

5. This week we officially began our women's bible study on Wednesday morning at church and we're doing Priscilla Shirer's study on Gideon. And after just one week, I can already tell it's going to be a powerful study. Looking forward to see what I learn from it.

11 Months!

Yesterday my baby hit the eleven month mark. 11 MONTHS! That means that we're now in the final countdown stage to her first birthday. Can someone please hold me? I don't know where the time is going. I know it's so cliche, but I just don't get how time can move so fast. At Bible Study yesterday morning, a gal in my group brought her new baby with her and just listening to his little noises and grunts and watching him stretch his arms and turn his tiny head...I just sat there and starred at him and wondered how in the world M was ever that little? I am no where near ready to have another child, but I wish I could relive our newborn days over and over. I loved them!

But moving on....enough being sappy and emotional about my healthy, growing girl who I feel so fortunate for. She's such a joy to be around! Here's what things are looking like at eleven months old...

M, our biggest news of the month: WALKING! You took your first REAL steps on September 7, and since then it seems you walks a little more each day as your comfort level rises! It's been almost three weeks since you started, and I'd say you walk about 60% of the time and crawl the other 40%. My favorite part of your walking is her hands. They're always in the air over your head and it's the cutest!

You are now down to four nursing sessions a day, and I'm hoping to wean you down to three by your birthday, but we'll see about that! Right now you nurse when you wake (8:30sh), 12pm, 5pm, and before bed (8:30ish). I'm hoping to drop the 5pm feeding, and bump the noon feeding back to maybe closer to 1pm? We shall see. You are still doing great with solids, no real new updates there since my munchkin meals post a couple of weeks ago. One new favorite food is grapes! Oh, and you also got your first meal off the kids menu this month! We went to Cowfish for dinner the other night on a whim, and I had brought nothing for you to munch on, and since Dad and I were getting sushi, I needed to order something for you to eat. You only ate a tiny amount of your entree, but it was a fun first!

Still a super sleeper. I thank my lucky stars for this each day! Napping twice a day still, but lately your naps have become a huge playfest in your crib unless you're super tired. I can put you down for your afternoon nap at 3, and you'll play till 4:15 before falling asleep, but you honestly do play and don't fuss, so I can't complain.

Two more teeth this month! You got two more on the bottom which brings our total to eight. One came in on your 10 month birthday, and the other popped through on September 10. I thought we'd get a break before we started on your molars, but that seems doubtful. You're still chewing on everything and sticking it way back in your mouth. Poor kiddo. Must be no fun getting a mouthful of teeth in such a short period of time.

You have a new word!! DOG! Or as you say it, "Doh!" You see Rosie and Layla and immediately begin jabbering away and you definitely know that they are dogs, but you also think other furry creatures are dogs too, like the squirrel puppet at music class or the cat on our walk...we're still working on understanding that not all fuzzy friends are dogs!

One more new thing I've really start to see from you this month is a bit of an attitude. You are a strong willed little thing, and you like to get your way, and you make it known if you're not happy. I think you also are beginning to understand "No!" because I can now tell you no and you do one of two things, a) you look at me and put your bottom lip out and begin to sob or b) you look at me very seriously and then scream and squeal as loud as you can. You like to keep us on our toes!

M girl, we love you so darn much. I am going to do my best cherishing this last full month of baby before you're considered a toddler. I truly cherish being your mom and spending my days with you. I have always dreamed of this and it's a million times better than I ever imagined!

Also...in case anyone was curious, photographing an 11 month old laying on her back is TOUGH work. She made me work for one decent picture.

Stats:
Weight: Still need to measure
Height: About 30 inches
Clothes: Pretty solid mix of 12 month or 18 month, or 12-18 month if it's from Old Navy or Baby Gap!
Diapers: Size 3 in disposables; 4 snaps open across in the BG cloth, all the way unbuttoned down.
Teeth: 8, 4 on top, 4 on bottom
Eyes: Blue
Hair: You're really beginning to rock a baby mullet! It's getting really long on the sides and in the back!

Park date with our buddies...

Not sure what the weather is like where you are, but here in Charlotte, the temperature has finally started to drop to some cooler numbers, and it's beginning to feel a little bit like fall! We broke in a few of our few new falls outfits this week, and on Tuesday morning we went to the park with some of our buddies, and enjoyed the sunshine and cool air (and snacks...as you can see...my child mostly ate snacks the whole time she was at the park.)

Also...M FINALLY has enough hair for a bow up top. It's barely hanging on, but we're making it work!

I still just love that so many of my blog buddies (new and old!) here in Charlotte have babies so close in age to M.
From left to right...Faith, Mama Duck, Katie, Allie, and Nina

M and one of Faith's twins reading a book or possibly talking about snacks...

Here's hoping for lots more park dates this fall with friends!

5 on Friday...around the internet

Linking up with April + friends for 5 on Friday today!

Today's list is 5 favorites from around the web....

1. Why Generation Y Yuppies are Unhappy THIS. Yes, yes, yes. I am guilty of a few of these things, and I think many of my friends from my generation can relate. But instead of just picking on our generation, the author makes some great points and ends with some positive pointers.

2. When Things Are More Complicated Than They Seem Do you follow my friend Becca? If you haven't, please start. I read this post of hers weeks and weeks ago, but never shared on here like I intended to. Becca has a way with words, she's honest, she's raw, and she loves Jesus. I love this post so much.

3. A fellow momma in our playgroup shared this with us this week, and while I do NOT want to be pregnant again right now, this made me a little nostalgic! For his wife's 9 months of pregnancy, this man taped one second a day and compiled this beautiful video. I love it!

4. Now this is not new to the webs, in fact, the post date is from May, so many of you may have seen it...BUT! If you're a breastfeeding momma, you MUST read this. I pretty much fell off my couch laughing when I got to the part about the stray cat. I can relate to all of this: Steps to Prepare Yourself for Breastfeeding.

5. And for all my fellow Breaking Bad fans...this! Rather silly, but I love Jimmy Fallon!

Cabin Weekend 2013

Remember when we went on vacation late July/early August and I never finished blogging about it? Yeah...me too. Oops. At this point, I'm mostly just sharing these photos so I have our trip documented on here!

After a week in upstate NY for J's brother's wedding, we headed back South. But instead of driving to Richmond where our dogs were staying with my parents, we made a stop in Rockbridge Baths, VA for cabin weekend with some of our friends! We left Westport, NY at about 4AM, and arrived at our destination at about 4PM. Another LONG day of traveling. M did well, but by about 1PM, she was ready to be done.

Every summer since 2008, we have spent at least one weekend at our good friends' family cabin here, and we were totally thrilled to be able to go this year and take M. (2009, 2011)

Our weekend was full of friends, fantastic food (per the usual), some good beer (particularly a coffee stout from Williamsburg Ale Werks), card games + bowl of nouns (best game EVER!), and of course, swimming in the river!

Swimming time!

She LOVED the river!

And one more collage I stole from our friend Laura!

After 2 full days of fun at the cabin, we packed our car up AGAIN, drove to Richmond where we spent the night, and then finally headed back to Charlotte the next day after 11 nights on the road and over 2,300 miles put on my car. It was a BIG trip with a little baby, but we made lots of memories and had a fun time!

Sunday Funday

Yesterday we had big plans to go to Lowe's and get a few things don around the house. But at the last minute we changed our minds and decided to go to the Charlotte Greek Festival. It was crowded and hot, but we still had a fun time and enjoyed some Greek food and some Greek dancing!

M was a little mesmerized by the dancing!

Also, funny side note...when we got her out of the car, we noticed she snuck a measuring spoon out the house with her. This crazy child then proceeded to carry it all over the festival in her stroller. Seriously. Babies are so weird, yet hilarious!

We left the festival after about an hour, but didn't head home right away. Instead we went to a park nearby for some swinging and some playing. Forgive me for the photo overload, but I just had too many cute ones to choose from!

I just adore this one...

This picture makes me laugh...she started by sitting at the bottom of this steep hill, and in a matter of minutes she had made it to the top. This child is fast.

On Saturday morning, she took her first unassisted steps (insert proud mommy clapping here!), and we did a little practice at the park, but mostly holding on to mom and dad's hands since she's still pretty unsure about the whole thing.

And this...these two photos just kill me and sum up my child so well. When it was time to go, I scooped her up and she was NOT happy about having to go home....

But her clever dad immediately started to sing one of the silly songs she likes, and BAM! Back to her happy self.

Munchkin Meals - 10 Months Old....

It's been awhile since I did an update on M's eating and BLW (baby led weaning), and I figured 10 months old would be a good time to recap where we're at right now. Also, today is Munchkin Meals Thursday over on Brittany's blog, A Healthy Slice of Life, so I thought it would be a good chance to link up!

Overall, we're still loving the BLW approach to feeding M. I'd say sometime around 9-9.5 months, she has really started to eat more, and play less. However, I still don't have a GREAT eater on my hands. We definitely have our share of meals where she eats a few bites and wants down out of her high chair. I don't want to fool anyone into thinking she's an amazing eater. She has good meals and bad meals! Here's what a normal day looks like for M's eating habits...

8:30AM Wake up and nurse

9:00 AM Breakfast....this is usually a mix of some type of fruit (cantaloupe, watermelon, blueberries, banana) maybe a scrambled egg with some cheese or some type of grain, typically a whole grain waffle or 2 of Trader Joe's mini silver dollar pancakes

12:00 PM Nurse after she wakes up from her morning nap

1:00ish PM Lunch Time!

2:30 PM Snack (cheerios, yogurt melts, rice cakes, dried fruit, snap pea crisps)

5:00 PM Nurse after she wakes up from her afternoon nap

6:30 PM Dinner Time!

8:30 PM Nurse before bed

For lunch and dinner, if she isn't eating what we're having, she usually has some sort of combination of the following...cherry tomatoes, black beans, tortilla strips, shredded cheese ("Bag cheese"), zucchini, squash, sweet potato (either cut in strips like fries or cut into small bite size pieces with cinnamon), yogurt (I put it on the spoon, she feeds herself), apple and pear slices, peas, cantaloupe, watermelon, blueberries, banana, cucumber, avocado, noodles with parmesan cheese....my list could go on and on! Somewhere between nine and ten months, we were really able to start sharing pretty much whatever we've been eating with her, and that has made things so easy, especially at dinner time! She loves spaghetti night (which has pretty much become a weekly occurrence now!), and mexican is a favorite too. She has really enjoyed guacamole, shredded meat with seasoning, and corn and black bean salsa. She also has a sippy cup of water at meals and through out the day.

It's been so neat seeing her grow and change since we started solids in April when she first hit the six month mark. Now she's practically a pro and gobbling up all kinds of things! She will usually try just about anything for us. She will often spit foods out, but then picks it back up off her bib and back in her mouth it goes!

I have LOVED that BLW has helped her fine motor skills develop. Plus, it's so nice to be able to enjoy dinner with my family where no one has to "feed" the baby since she does it all on her own. A few questions we have had...

You don't give her spicy foods, do you? Yes we do! The more flavors we can expose her to, the better. Just this past week she had a rice based dish with cayenne and lemon juice, and she loved it. She drank more water than normal, but she gobbled it up!

Does she ever eat pouches of food or purees? Only a few times...when we're on the road and I know we won't be stopping somewhere that has food options for her (ie. McDonald's), I have done purees. And when she's had some "tummy troubles" we've done pureed prunes to help get things....moving :)

Isn't it a mess? YES. A huge mess, but it has gotten better. I seriously don't know if I'd be able to BLW without my two dogs....just saying! Those two make a great clean up team!

What highchair do you have? I get asked this all the time...we have the Ikea Antilop chair. $25 and it's the best! Easy to clean (all plastic), easy to move around and take apart for travel, plus a nice big tray!

What has your baby been eating lately?
Be sure to check out Brittany's link up today for more great munchkin meal ideas!
