Monday Randoms

Happy Monday! Cannot believe October will be here by the end of the week.
Here are some random tidbits to start off the week...

Little brother might be coming sooner than later. And by "little" brother I mean the 8lb 7oz baby who I saw on an ultrasound last Tuesday at 36 weeks and 5 days. I've been saying all along that this baby feels really big and I think that's the truth.

His room is pretty much done. Just need to get some random stuff out of there....like Maggie's toys that I rotate in and out of our living room. Up until now, their "hiding" place has been in there. Guess I need a new "hiding" place! Eventually I'll take some pictures and share on here. And M's room! We had it painted back in August and I've made a lot of changes to it since. I love the new look she's got going on in there!

We went out to breakfast yesterday and I think M may have out eaten J and myself. That girl can put back some pancakes and scrambled eggs.

Who else is listening to the Limetown podcast? It is my new favorite! Just wish there were more episodes. I read somewhere that it's a mash up of Serial and the X-Files which is a great description.

Also, Bloodline! We're a little slow, but we finally got started on this show. I think we have 3 left? Either way, I've been enjoying it and seeing Kyle Chandler on TV again! When the baby gets here I have a few shows I want to start during our marathon nursing sessions. When M was born I watched some terrible (and addicting) ABC Family dramas and Parenthood binge style, this time around I'm thinking of getting Hulu Plus so I can watch The Mindy Project. Any other suggestions? #seriousquestions

Last Wednesday I went to dinner with some friends to enjoy one last night out before the baby comes! My friend Nina is due with a baby girl about two weeks after me, and it was fun celebrating our two babies over Mexican with some great friends. And then Saturday, another group of friends threw me and another friend who is pregnant with twins in our group a sweet sprinkle. They gifted us with a generous gift card and lots of diapers. Which is probably good since I hadn't bought a single diaper for this little guy. We do plan to do cloth again, but we still use disposables about 25% of the time! I'm so thankful for such kind and generous friends that I've gotten to know here in the last 4 years!

I'm supposed to be starting the Jennie Allen Restless Bible Study at church this week, as long as I'm not having a baby! I'm really excited for this study, as I've heard good things from some friends. Anyone out in the blog world done it before?

I got my eyefi SD card that I blogged about here, and I'm obsessed. It is pretty easy to set up and definitely going to get lots of use at the hospital!

M has pretty much stopped napping in the afternoons. Cue the sad trombone. In the past four weeks, I'd say she's napped maybe 5 or 6 times. While I'm pretty sad about this "loss" she's actually doing a decent job having quiet time for 90 minutes each day. I've moved a lot of toys to her room which has helped, but I'd love other ideas for quiet time entertainment if you have some!

Alright....enough random thoughts for one day!
Here's hoping this is a great week....whether we meet our baby boy or not!

Baby Brother Wish List

Overall, we really need very little/next to nothing for our newest addition! He obviously needs clothes, but all of our other big items, we purchased for M and they'll work just great for him. With that said, I do still have a few things I'd like to get, but none are really necessities (well....except for #3!). Since M was born, new items have hit the market or I've seen things that worked great for friends that we didn't have. Here's my little wish list!

1. Sakura Bloom Ring Sling - With M I used a K'tan and and Ergo and really loved both. I loved wearing her in general, but I've heard such great things about this carrier from so many moms, that I sort of want to splurge and get one. I may end up borrowing an Etsy made ring sling from a friend, but I'm still eyeing this one!

2. Bumkins Waterproof Super Bibs - My favorite bibs for once she started solids! We have about half a dozen of these for M and she still uses them (I know, I know...she's almost 3....but she doesn't fight me and the child is a mess and I hate treating stains!) Anyhow, I'd love to get some in some less "girly" patterns for our little guy.

3. Angel Dear Tiger Lovey - If you've ever looked at my pics of M, I am sure you've seen her Angel Dear lovey hanging out in about 75% of my pictures. He is pretty much a family member! I let her sit down and choose one for her brother, and she chose this tiger. I introduced her lovey to her in the hospital and she plans to bring this one to the hospital for her brother and teach him how to rub the tag in his ear (her favorite thing to do with hers). Here's hoping he loves his as much as she does!

4. Covered Goods Nursing Cover - I first saw the Covered Goods cover on Paige's blog at the end of my nursing journey with M, but I bookmarked it then and knew it would be something I'd want for a future baby! With M, I didn't buy a nursing cover. When we'd nurse in public, I'd either do it somewhere private, or I'd use my muslin blankets as a cover. This worked great, but we also nursed in public really rarely. Since she was my only baby, I didn't find myself out and about that much at feeding times. However, I know that won't necessarily be the case this go round since I have a crazy buys preschooler to take to gymnastics, the playground, art class...you get the idea. I definitely want to be able to nurse on the go and feel comfortable. Major props to my mom friends who nurse in public with no cover, but I prefer to have a little more coverage and this cover looks awesome. Also...love that it can be used as a cover for the carseat as well! This is one item I have already purchased and is ready to go!

5. Baby Jogger City Mini GT Double Stroller - I am still a little on the fence about a double stroller and I've been debating how much use we'd get out of it. We love our single BOB, and I hope to use it with the baby for walks and let M walk on her own, but I do think that for longer walks, a double stroller would be really nice. If we do end up getting one, I'm pretty sure this is what I'd choose. I like that it has a smaller footprint than the double BOB, but it still has those great all terrain tires. And I love how easy it is to close....tough decision! We'll probably wait a few months and see how we're feeling with two kids before we decide if it's worthwhile to us or not.

6. Charcoal Bamboo Cloth Diaper Inserts - So boring I know...but we plan to cloth diaper this little guy just like we did with M, and I plan to make a few changes this go round. I have seen some new research and conversation around wash routines and plan to switch that up, and I'd also like to try some of these inserts, especially for overnight diapers, instead of the traditional microfiber inserts we used last time. Any other CD moms have insight on these inserts?

7. Eyefi Wi-Fi Memory Card - This is a total want....definitely not a need! But I'd love to have one of these for my DSLR! Especially for the hospital! My friend Sarah has one and it's so neat and easy how she quickly gets her pictures off her camera and onto her phone or tablet!

8. Mustela PhysiObebe No Rinse Cleanser - I never used this with M, but I have heard a lot of mom friends suggest this to me! I actually got a bottle from my girlfriends at Bunco last month when they surprised me with a bag of goodies, and I am excited to try it.

So, anything I'm missing?
Anything you bought for your second baby that you didn't have for your first? I'd love to hear what other "cool" and new baby items are out there that I may not be up to date on!

(All items, with the exception of 4, are shared with Amazon Affiliate Links!)

Easy Dinner Side

One of my favorite, easy, go to sides are these shredded brussels from Trader Joe's! I love regular roasted brussels, but I think the texture on these is even better! Sometimes I think regular, whole brussels get a little soggy, even when roasted.

I cook them in a skillet over medium high heat with a tablespoon or two of olive oil, and about 2 slices of chopped bacon (diced pancetta is awesome too!). I add in a little of the Trader Joe's Everyday Seasoning for some extra flavor, and I toss in the skillet for about 20 minutes or until browned. Seriously, so easy and it pairs well with everything! We had it last night with a smoked chicken and sweet potatoes.

What are your favorite, easy sides to go with dinner?

Five on Friday

This is definitely going down as one my most random five on friday posts ever! Go link up with April and join in today!

1. Jamie Ivey's Happy Hour Podcast - I have seen a few friends mention this podcast, but I think my friend Rachel was the first. It's my new favorite podcast. I've been listening from the beginning when I am doing chores around the house, or even out running errands alone. I want to be Jamie's friend and join her for a Happy Hour!

2. Snapchat....I can't believe I not only downloaded snapchat but I also kind of like it. I feel like I'm 15. Add me on there so we can be cool snapchatters together! (PS....what in the world is the score and trophy thing on here?? I still don't really have a clue what I'm doing...)

3. School is going so well for M! She started in her Young 3's class last week and she LOVES it. She even asked me last night when she gets to go again, and when i told her Tuesday, she said, "But I want to go back tomorrow!" Made my mama heart happy! Anyway...she came home from school this past Tuesday with this "All About Me" paper. At carpool her teacher told me I'd get a kick out of her favorite animal and they had to look up how to spell it....she cracks us up!

4. Some friends of mine started a monthly supper club and last Friday we had our first dinner that my friend Anni hosted. It was SO much fun sitting and chatting and enjoying great dinner! I know this will definitely be something we look forward to each month! Here's half the group...

5. When my mom was here a few weeks ago, M requested that she make her a cape. I'm not really sure where this grand idea came from, but we took her to JoAnne's and she picked out some fabric (Frozen, duh.) and my mom did just as she was asked. Since then, M has been working on her "zooming" skills to make the cape fly up in the back and she thinks she looks like Anna in Frozen. Pretty much living the dream these days!

So there you have it. Five {very} random tidbits from our week.
Happy Friday friends!

Westport Vacation - Part 4

Going to finally finish and wrap up my vacation recap posts! This is way overdue!

Our last 3 days in Westport were some of the prettiest! The weather got so cool at nights that each morning we had to wake up and wear our sweatshirts. It was such a nice change from the Charlotte humidity!

Friday morning we woke up and had our breakfast and coffee....Anna and Elsa found some mini-Adirondack chairs to lounge in...

We left the house before 9 to head to the marina, because it was our big morning of boating! We decided to rent a boat from the marina and explore the lake some.

This will be so much more fun in years to come when I'm not pregnant and J could teach the kids to water ski or tube, but this year, we just strolled around and enjoyed the views.

M loved the boat. She lounged in the captain's seat for most of our trip and just took it all in!

After our boat ride we played at the lake for a little bit before M's nap.

On Friday evening, we went to get pizza for dinner in town, and what we had hoped would be a fast pizza dinner turned into a bit of a mess (no tables, long waits), so we go it to go (only to have someone pick up the order we had paid for...)....anyway! To kill time while we waited for our pizza we hung out at a big park in town and M and J rolled all over the grassy hills. She thought this was so fun!

Late that evening J's parents and one of our nieces got in to town, so we caught up with them for a bit before heading to bed. Saturday we did more swimming but this time with more cousins!! J's cousin Lauren has two little girls who were there with their grandparents for the weekend and M had a lot of fun trying to keep up with them (they're 1 year and 3.5 years older than she is). They were pro frog catchers too!

J also did some paddle boarding and canoeing with M!

By Saturday evening, my sister in law, her new husband and their four girls had arrived. It was a full house, but M LOVED having all the big girls to play with. She thinks nothing is cooler than her big cousins!

Saturday night we had a big taco bar for dinner and my nieces filled me in on the latest One Direction drama and they braided my hair for me and colored with M. Nothing like a group of pre-teen and teen girls to keep you entertained.

On Sunday we swam more (because....gorgeous weather and beautiful lake!) and J's brother and wife got into town that afternoon.

Sunday evening we had a big cookout on the rocks and stayed out pretty late to watch the stars come out. It was a great way to end the trip. And I love this picture of M with all her sweet big cousins from that night!

Sunday morning, our little family of 3 + the dogs got up at 5:30 to hit the road. J had mostly packed the car the night before so it wasn't too much work that morning, and we were on the road by 6:15. When we stopped for lunch that day I snapped this picture of M. I think it's a good image to describe how all 3 of us felt...

It was a wonderful long and relaxing vacation, but we were ready to be home! It was about 17 hours of traveling to get home, but we did it all in one day (thank you again Daniel Tiger ipad games!). Crazy to think next time we go to Westport we'll have a family a of FOUR!

Tickled Pink: Start of the School Year Teacher Gifts

M is starting her first year of preschool tomorrow! She (and I) are both excited and a teeny bit nervous, but I know that ultimately it'll be an awesome change for us both. She is so ready and it'll be great for her to have the structure of school two days a week when the baby comes. And it'll be nice for me to have those 6-7 hours a week with just baby brother!

Last week she had her open house and we took a little something to her teachers. While I definitely don't feel gifts are necessary at the start of the year, I know that when I taught, it was always so appreciated, and I wanted M's teachers to know how grateful we are for what they do. We kept it simple, and M helped me pick out some pink goodies at Target last week (and she totally wanted to keep the nail polishes!).

Happy start of the school year to my friends who start tomorrow, although I know so many started already in August! Here's to a great new school year!

Toddler Girl Fall Favorites - Five on Friday!

Linking up with April today for Five on Friday!

Today I'm listing a few of my favorite fall pieces for toddler girls this fall. Some have been purchased for M already, and a few I'm still eyeing and hoping for a sale soon! I am so over maternity clothing and don't want to buy myself much for fall since I have no idea what my size will be. So instead of shopping for myself, I'm putting all my shopping efforts into cute 3T clothes for M....here are five (well, really six!) of our favorites for this fall!

1. Tea Collection Dresses...I have recently fallen in love with Tea dresses for M this past spring. I love the patterns and the cuts, and I think it's the cutest play clothes for kids. The periwinkle dress on the left we already have, but I'm really liking the look of this red tango tiered one as well for her fall wardrobe! Also, this weekend, everything is 20% off on their site and free shipping!

2. Old Navy Frozen Long Sleeved Tee....because can one little girl possibly have too much Frozen in her wardrobe?! I think that as far as graphic character tees go, this one is pretty adorable!

3. Silver Glitter Slip-Ons...I'm looking for easy, slip on, closed toed shoes for fall. This pair that I found for cheap on zulily earlier this month fit the bill! I also scored a few other pairs of boots and cute navy t-strap slip ons for her from here as well.

4. Hanna Andersson Now Playing Dress...I ordered M a similar dress in a striped pattern from zulily this summer, but now I want this pattern too! I love the quality of Hanna Andersson clothing.

5. Old Navy Halloween Pajamas....because every fall means it's time to restock our holiday jammies! I love this pair for Halloween this year! Also....only $10!

And as always...everything I have purchased was done using ebates! I love getting that extra cash back through out the year. It really does add up!

Any other super cute finds out there for fall?
Where have you been shopping for your toddler lately that you love?

Westport Vacation - Part 3

Wednesday we stayed close to the house most the day! Lots of play time at the lake thanks to perfect weather and no south wind!

By this day, M was very comfortable on the rocks and at the lake. She was acting like she owned the place!

That evening, we went to town for dinner, and then came home for a very special night....camping! Months before we left for our trip, J had started thinking about taking M camping while we were here. We really weren't sure how'd she do sleeping in a tent and in a sleeping bag, so we thought this would be the perfect place for them to try it out ( I say "them" and not "we" because there's no way I was going to sleep on the ground in a tent at 29 weeks pregnant!). Wednesday afternoon they set up the tent on the deck, and that night was the big night! They got their head lamps on and were ready to go!

And sure enough, she slept all night (once she stopped talking J's ear off and went to sleep!). I was a proud mama on Thursday morning when they woke up and came in to greet me in bed. We got up and had breakfast and then some book and coffee time...

It was (yet again) a beautiful morning, so we packed a big lunch and hiked to Rose Point for a picnic.

I love this comparison shot from 2013 vs 2015!

Proof that I participated in the hike and the fun!

That afternoon, M played with stickers on the deck while J made us dinner. And the dogs took in cool air!

After dinner, we decided to put on some bug spray and go down to the rocks to watch the sunset and the stars come out. This ended up being one of my favorite memories from our trip. It was such a beautiful night and just being with M and J watching the clouds turn pink, with no distractions....it was perfect.
